Arthur Nicholl has done lots of work for us over the last 15 years, including constructing a patio, a stone archway and a large garden pool and rebuilding retaining walls and granite steps. The work was part of the renovation of a Victorian greenhouse and a sloping, walled garden, so required creativeness and imagination. Arthur was excellent at providing ideas and cost-effective solutions. Arthur and Kieran are both reliable, conscientious, trustworthy. Their work is of high quality and their standards high. We would not hesitate to use their services again..

Arthur and Kieran did a fantastic job of transforming our patio area. They are reliable, punctual and extremely efficient. When faced with unexpected problems a solution was always at hand. New drainage, slabbing, retaining wall, steps, re-pointing granite wall and tiling external wall. Always left a clean and tidy site overnight. Arthur and Kieran did a fantastic job on our back garden and front wall . They arrived daily first thing and didn’t stop all day every day until hey finished . they are very hard working and trustworthy, our back garden which is a large area was done in porcelain tiling , with lots of difficult area’s to cut . Which was no problem to them even though this was the first time they used this type of paving . the finish looks great and have had many compliments already , Also our front new wall looks amazing. Arthur & Kieran did a brilliant job remodelling our front garden. They removed our old concrete front pathway, removed old granite chips and topsoil, put down new hardcore, and then laid a granite slabbed pathway with new granite chips in the centre. They did an excellent job laying the slabs around our bay window. They also removed, and responsibly disposed of, a steel fence that we are going to replace with railings more in keeping with the age of the property. In order to help with this, they lifted and relaid granite kerbs [that supported the original Victorian railings], in order for them to be level for the new fence [to be made and installed by a blacksmith]. We have already had many positive comments on the new front path from our neighbours, and when the fence is installed Alec is coming back to take some photos! And after last weekend’s heavy rain, everything drains away as it should. I can honestly say that Alec & Kieran are hard working, trustworthy, highly competent, and very nice guys. If you are thinking of getting paving done, use these guys!

Contacted Arthur to build garage. Although not able to start right away (for several months) he was as good as his word, started mid Feb, never left worksite (except for two weeks weathered off) and finished off garage that looks great. Always willing to discuss and resolve issues, updating progress and next steps. Restored my faith in builders. Left our garden as he found it on completion of his work. Always kept clean worksite and maintained good rapport with neighbours who shared the lane. Would certainly use Arthur again and can recommend him for his customer focus.

I’ve just had Arthur and Kieran carry out a building job for me, they carried this out in a total professional manner and always turned up bang on time every morning and made sure they left a tidy worksite at the end of the day. What can I say about these two lol well for starters great guys with a good sense of humour like me so it was a pleasure to have them with me for just over 4 weeks don’t know who was more demented at end of it all them or me! Totally professional kept me up to date with everything that was going on and there was alot going on. It was such a large area of garden to cover and we didnt have a lot of vision so Arthurs expertise helped us out greatly he came up with a few good ideas ( over some sleepless nights I’m sure ) which fitted in really well with the layout and we love it. The granite paving is beautiful as is the walls he & Keiran built, drainage etc lots of little details so pleased I spotted their van on my street they were doing work for someone up the rd from us & decided to call it’s hard to find decent good workers & these two are just that hard working guys who didnt muck us around or rip us off can’t wait to have them back next year to do rest of the garden! Arthur, assisted by Kieran has just completed the construction of a large garage at the rear of our home. This also involved the rebuilding of a granite boundary wall. As an architect I know only too well how important it is to employ good honest tradesmen. Arthur and his team fill this role completely. He worked continuously from start through to completion. He had to deal with set backs due to groundwater at foundation level and a client who changed things as the job progressed and took his in his stride. In addition to his own work he coordinated the joiner to ensure an efficient build. I would be happy to recommend Arthur to anyone requiring a builder. The end result is first class and a number of the neighbours have commented not only on the quality of the finished job but also to Arthur’s pleasant nature as they passed by.

Basement conversion:
Arthur Nicoll Paving & Building Services was recommended to us by a very reliable tradesman. Our basement conversion was a huge undertaking but Arthur did the work and also project managed the entire process at the same time, from underpinning and steel work through to excavations and sourcing other trades in a highly efficient and organised manner.
All work was completed to the highest standard with safety always a prime concern. My neighbours were also so impressed by Arthur and his apprentice Kieran that they both intend to use his services in the future. A highly professional and engaging individual I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Arthur Nicoll Paving & Building Services has just (Dec 2015) completed an extension to my existing property. Work completed to the highest standard within the agreed time frame. Building site never left unsafe or untidy. Notable attention to detail and during recent floods (January 2016) the gentle slope of the patio correctly led all the rain water away from the extension. The most dry place in Aberdeen !

Arthur was recommended by another tradesman we have used for years. He picked and re-pointed old garden walls, laid a slab base, and moved an existing shed. He turned up when he said he would and along with Kearon, did all I could have asked him to do, to a high standard. Arthur had to sort out a slabbed area of my garden to enable a log cabin to placed on it. This had to be exactly level and done fairly quickly. He did not let me down, he was sorting other jobs out to fit me in as soon as he could which was much appreciated. He did an excellent job in horrendous conditions. I will be getting in touch again next year for a few other jobs that are cropping up.

Arthur has built an excellent greenhouse base and surrounding paving to my design.
He did the work meticulously making sure that dimensions were as required and took time and trouble to ensure that paving gradiets provided drainage. Overall an excellent job completed at a very reasonable cost. Arthur is a very personable chap good to have on site, who made a real effort to minimise disruption and ensured that the site was left clean and tidy at the end of the job.

The entrance path and front step of my tenement flat had been in a state of disrepair for a number of years. Arthur provided an overview of what would be required to repair both path and step and provided a quote within 24 hrs. Arthur completed path and step repair in the time agreed and to a high standard. Arthur has built an excellent greenhouse base and surrounding paving to my design.
He did the work meticulously making sure that dimensions were as required and took time and trouble to ensure that paving gradiets provided drainage. Overall an excellent job completed at a very reasonable cost. Arthur is a very personable chap good to have on site, who made a real effort to minimise disruption and ensured that the site was left clean and tidy at the end of the job.

The entrance path and front step of my tenement flat had been in a state of disrepair for a number of years. Arthur provided an overview of what would be required to repair both path and step and provided a quote within 24 hrs. Arthur completed path and step repair in the time agreed and to a high standard. Arthur & Kieran did a brilliant job remodelling our front garden. They removed our old concrete front pathway, removed old granite chips and topsoil, put down new hardcore, and then laid a granite slabbed pathway with new granite chips in the centre. They did an excellent job laying the slabs around our bay window. They also removed, and responsibly disposed of, a steel fence that we are going to replace with railings more in keeping with the age of the property. In order to help with this, they lifted and relaid granite kerbs [that supported the original Victorian railings], in order for them to be level for the new fence [to be made and installed by a blacksmith]. We have already had many positive comments on the new front path from our neighbours, and when the fence is installed Alec is coming back to take some photos! And after last weekend’s heavy rain, everything drains away as it should. I can honestly say that Alec & Kieran are hard working, trustworthy, highly competent, and very nice guys. If you are thinking of getting paving done, use these guys!

Contacted Arthur to build garage. Although not able to start right away (for several months) he was as good as his word, started mid Feb, never left worksite (except for two weeks weathered off) and finished off garage that looks great. Always willing to discuss and resolve issues, updating progress and next steps. Restored my faith in builders. Left our garden as he found it on completion of his work. What can I say about these two lol well for starters great guys with a good sense of humour like me so it was a pleasure to have them with me for just over 4 weeks don’t know who was more demented at end of it all them or me! Totally professional kept me up to date with everything that was going on and there was alot going on. It was such a large area of garden to cover and we didnt have a lot of vision so Arthurs expertise helped us out greatly he came up with a few good ideas ( over some sleepless nights I’m sure ) which fitted in really well with the layout and we love it. The granite paving is beautiful as is the walls he & Keiran built, drainage etc lots of little details so pleased I spotted their van on my street they were doing work for someone up the rd from us & decided to call it’s hard to find decent good workers & these two are just that hard working guys who didnt muck us around or rip us off can’t wait to have them back next year to do rest of the garden! Arthur, assisted by Kieran has just completed the construction of a large garage at the rear of our home. This also involved the rebuilding of a granite boundary wall. As an architect I know only too well how important it is to employ good honest tradesmen. Arthur and his team fill this role completely. He worked continuously from start through to completion. He had to deal with set backs due to groundwater at foundation level and a client who changed things as the job progressed and took his in his stride. Arthur Nicoll Paving & Building Services was recommended to us by a very reliable tradesman. Our basement conversion was a huge undertaking but Arthur did the work and also project managed the entire process at the same time, from underpinning and steel work through to excavations and sourcing other trades in a highly efficient and organised manner.

Arthur had to sort out a slabbed area of my garden to enable a log cabin to placed on it. This had to be exactly level and done fairly quickly. He did not let me down, he was sorting other jobs out to fit me in as soon as he could which was much appreciated. He did an excellent job in horrendous conditions.
